The Education Minister says that feedback on the new primary school meals has been extremely favourable.
Daphne Caine made the statement while appearing before a Tynwald select committee.
Mrs Caine said: “We can only say that the overwhelming feedback about the main meal choices, the vegetarian or the meat or fish option, have been overwhelmingly positive and complementary.”
The new menus focus on local produce and healthier options, but changes have already been made, including the return of mayonnaise after criticism of dry tuna being served to students.
Cost
Mrs Caine told the committee that implementing the new menu has “not proved any more costly to the previous menu”.
However, she did confirm that there would be an “inflationary based increase, probably in the next term or so”.
Mrs Caine also addressed criticism from the Diabetes Isle of Man about a lack of information being received by parents and the issues this could cause for diabetic children.
She said:”That was very unfortunate and everybody is really sorry there was a communication blip.
“We have had quite a detailed investigation into where the process fell down in order that we can guard against that happening again.”
