The DESC says it welcomes feedback on the new school menus after a mixed reaction from parents and their children.
Onchan MHK Julie Edge and some parents criticised the new menu in the island’s schools for a lack of choice and failing to consider the needs of neurodiverse children.
Parents commenting on our original post on Facebook about the issue shared experiences of their children with one saying their seven-year-old “asked why they were all being put on a diet”.
However, there was some support, with one parent saying: “My kids have always come home hungry and they seem to be enjoying the new menu so far, this is including my autistic son who is a fussy eater.”

A spokesperson said the department “is pleased to see the introduction of a refreshed primary school menu, developed in response to feedback from both parents and pupils”.
They added: “We are listening carefully to concerns and remain committed to providing healthy, nutritious meals that cater to a range of needs.
“The menu will continue to evolve to ensure all pupils are properly nourished and enjoy their school meals.”
