The board of Southern Swimming Pool hope that southern MHKs will ‘support the pool to ensure that it remains open’.
It also calls for a replacement pool to be included in the Castle Rushen High School (CRHS) plans.
Earlier today (January 11) an email that disclosed information regarding the potential closure of Southern Swimming Pool was shared with the media.

Since the email was shared the pool board have issued a statement in which the board suggests that an emergency meeting of all the southern local authorities be held to agree action to ensure that a community pool remains open in the south.
It added that it would also welcome public support to retain a local pool so that all community members can swim without a lengthy commute.
Tynwald has the final say
The email to board members from the pool manager, Oliver Cowan, is as follows:
“Following a recent meeting held this morning, the board, the Minister of DESC and the chief executive of the department, we were informed of the recommendation that will be taken forward to the Tynwald sitting on the 17th of February.
“The recommendation would be that the Southern Swimming Pool closes from 31st of March 2024.
“I would like to reiterate that this is a recommendation on behalf of the department. The decision will be voted on during the sitting, and is subject to Tynwald approval.

“This is not notice of closure, this is purely to inform you of the process and recommendation made by DESC today.
“The department have stated that the decision has been made purely on financial grounds.”
