Clerk of the Course Gary Thompson says extending race week into Sunday afternoon is now becoming “more likely”.
Following persistent inclement conditions yesterday and further disruption today, Mr Thompson warned that the forecast offers little immediate relief.
“Obviously, it’s frustrating for all of us,” he said. “We’re all frustrated, but obviously we can’t help the weather. My primary thing for me is rider safety, and obviously we’ll only put the riders out in the best possible conditions.”
With more disruption expected over the next two days, organisers are looking towards the end of the week.
Contingency
“The use of Sunday afternoon, the contingency on Sunday afternoon is becoming, more likely,” Mr Thompson added. “Although it’s not confirmed yet, we’ve yet to confirm that, I think we all have to be realistic and have that in the back of our minds that we’re likely to be racing on Sunday afternoon.”
Mr Thompson also thanked competitors, teams, marshals, officials and spectators for their patience.
