The DESC’s Vocational Training Assistance Scheme has provided just under £40,000 for off-island electrical certification courses over the last six years.
Answering a question in Tynwald, Minister Daphne Caine, said in that time the department has provided support for 37 applications to this course, which consisted of 41 attendees.
The support is offered as a flat rate. Mrs Caine stated: “Each attendee is offered support of up to £1,000.”
She added: “The total cost to Vocational Training Assistance Scheme (VTAS) over the six years has been £39,540.80.”
The provided data shows peak spending occurred in 2024, with £11,730 supporting 12 attendees. No support was granted in 2020.
The current cost for the National Electrotechnical Training AM2 qualification is £935 per applicant.
