Survey Seeks Views on Body Image & Gender Attitudes

Island Global Research has launched a new survey asking island residents for their views on body image, weight‑loss treatments and cosmetic surgery.

It also explores attitudes around masculinity, misogyny and misandry, including how widespread people believe these issues to be and how they see gender portrayed online.

The survey to residents of Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man opened on April 17 and explores how people feel about the way body image is portrayed in the media and online, whether they would consider weight‑loss medicines or cosmetic procedures, and how widespread they believe discrimination against men and women to be.

It also asks for views on online attitudes towards women, feminism and expectations within relationships.

Researchers say early responses show notable differences between men and women on the second theme, and they are keen to encourage as many people as possible to take part before the survey closes on May 18.

Island Global Research plans to publish the findings and will offer media outlets early access to the report. The organisation says it is open to working with newsrooms to help explain and share the results once available.

Anyone aged 16 or over living in the Isle of Man, Jersey or Guernsey can take part.

The survey can be found here.
