Pedestrian access past the Ramsey Swing Bridge repair works will be allowed “where it is safe to do so”, the Department of Infrastructure has confirmed.
The update, shared by the Northern Chamber of Commerce, follows the start of essential repairs to the bridge in Ramsey.
The DOI said its engineer has been in discussion with the contractor and that pedestrian access can be permitted, but may need to be suspended if operational circumstances require it.
The bridge is currently closed to all road users for an expected two to three weeks while Paul Carey and Sons Ltd remove sections of asphalt, replace deteriorating joists and decking, and reinstate the road surface.
A closure order of up to a month has been sought to allow for weather‑related delays.
Harbours Division’s electrical team will also replace ageing fittings within the structure during the works.
