Thomson Injured at NW200

Grant Thomson has confirmed he sustained a broken left ankle following a crash during Superstock qualifying at the North West 200.

The incident occurred at Mill Road Roundabout, with the rider initially assessed by medics at the circuit before being transferred to hospital for further examination.

Thomson said: “Not a post I want to be writing but thought I’d give everyone an update unfortunately on the last superstock qualifying yesterday I had a high side out of the mill road round about.”

He added: “I have sustained a broken left ankle which I’m gutted about.”

The rider issued an apology to his team for the premature end to their event, saying: “I want to say a massive sorry to the team because they have done everything for me this week and I never wanted to end are trip like this.”

Thomson also thanked his family for their support, stating: “Also a massive thank you to Immy and my mum for coming to the hospital with me it has been a very long night.”

He pledged to return to racing, saying: “We will come back stronger but it’s gonna take abit of time but I’ll work hard to make sure I’m back 100%.”

Thomson also paid tribute to a fellow competitor who lost his life at the meeting, who has not been named.
