This summer’s micro-asphalt surfacing programme is due to start next Monday (July 21), with work currently programmed through for the next three weeks.
The Department of Infrastructure (DoI) says the micro-asphalt ‘seals the existing road surface, improves surface texture and prolongs the life of the road for many years’.
It is applied in a two stage application process, with the first application regulating the existing surface, and the second application gives the final surface.
The Department claims it is a ‘speedy, efficient and economic’ method of preventative maintenance and carrying out minor re-profiling of carriageway surfaces.
Three Weeks of Road Works
In each case the road being resurfaced will be closed to through traffic whilst works are underway, on-street parking will be suspended, and drivers should except delays.
Live traffic using the road will continue to help embed the new surface, however initially this must be at low speeds.
Traffic signs will be left in place advising of the risk of loose chippings and showing an advisory speed limit.
A short period after the new surfaces have been laid, where necessary iron work in the road will be raised to match the new height of the road and road markings will be re-instated.
Lets get into it, the following roads have been selected for inclusion in this summer’s micro-asphalt programme:
Week 1 (July 22-28)
- Claughbane Estate, Ramsey (Monday to Thursday)
- Larivane and Larivane Close, Andreas (Friday)
- Lime Street, Port St Mary (Friday)
- Close Famman, Port Erin (Friday)
- Mountain View, Peel (Saturday)
- Back Marina Road, Douglas (Sunday)
- Demesne Road, Douglas (Sunday) *
Week 2 (July 29 to August 4)
- Farrants Park, Castletown (Monday/Tuesday)
- Bayrauyr Road, Ballasalla (Tuesday to Friday)
- Mount View Road, Onchan (Friday/Saturday)
- Strathallan Road, Onchan (Saturday to Monday)
Week 3 (August 5-11)
- Ballavitchell Road (Mount Murray Back Road), Santon (Monday to Thursday)
- Blackberry Lane, Onchan (Saturday)
- South Quay, Douglas (Sunday)
*Surfacing on Demesne Road will exclude the section of the road between the junction of Westmoreland Road and the entrance to Crookall House. This will be treated once building work at the former nurse’s home is complete.
