Traditional Boat Weekend Sails into History

The Peel Traditional Boat Weekend, a beloved fixture in the Isle of Man’s maritime calendar for 33 years, has been discontinued, organisers have announced.

In a statement, the committee—comprising Mike Clark, Mike Horne, Marie Horne, and Emma Chase—said the decision was due to dwindling energy and declining participation as traditional boats “fell victim to old age or neglect.”

“After a long run of 33 years, the Peel Traditional Boat Weekend is no more,” the statement read. “Myself and my colleagues on the committee had served for a greater part of those years, and we had run out of steam.”

Attempts to recruit new committee members who would uphold the event’s ethos proved unsuccessful. “We decided to close the doors,” they said.

Peel Sail and Cruise Club (PSCC) will now host a new event open to all boat owners, not just traditional vessels.

Details will be available online.

The committee signed off with a farewell: “We wish all former attendees and friends good sailing and fair winds.”
