UCM Move to Benefit Students

The relocation of students to UCM’s Homefield Road campus will foster “greater collaboration,” Education Minister Daphne Caine has said.

Responding to questions from Onchan MHK Rob Callister, the minister confirmed the new Higher Education Centre will occupy an existing floor in the main UCM building.

Phase one will include “a suite of generic classrooms,” while phase two will create “a newly formed informal learning space,” with input from existing students and the Student Council.

Mrs Caine stated the project will have “no significant negative impact on the wider learning environment,” adding it will provide “increased opportunities for students to use informal learning spaces”.

Approximately 115 full and part-time degree students will be taught at the Centre.

On space allocation, Mrs Caine said the move from the Nunnery will improve occupancy rates at Homefield Road, offering “more flexibility” in matching group sizes to classrooms.
