Universal Service Clauses Haven’t Formed Part of MT License

The Enterprise Minister has confirmed that no universal service or provision clauses have ever been held with Manx Telecom under code powers or licence arrangements.

He said that responsibility for such conditions sits entirely with the island’s independent regulator.

Responding to a written question from Glenfaba & Peel MHK Kate Lord‑Brennan, Minister Tim Johnston said the Department for Enterprise “does not have, and has never had” any universal service clauses in place with the telecoms provider.

He added that decisions on determining, including or amending licence provisions fall to CURA, the Isle of Man Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority, as the statutory regulator for the sector.
