Ellan Vannin Fuels has released a new price breakdown showing how much VAT and duty drive up pump costs.
The figures, released ahead of final pricing confirmation expected tomorrow, show that for standard petrol priced at 157.9p per litre, more than half the cost comes from tax: 52.95p in duty and 26.32p in VAT.
Diesel shows an even sharper split. Of the 189.9p per litre displayed, 52.95p is duty and 31.65p is VAT, meaning taxes account for nearly 45% of the total price.
Super unleaded, listed at 164.9p per litre, includes 52.95p duty and 27.48p VAT.
The breakdown illustrates how global wholesale prices form only part of the final cost to consumers, with fixed duty and percentage‑based VAT continuing to drive pump prices higher.
The company said prices may adjust slightly once final wholesale figures are confirmed.
