Manx National Heritage has opened 1 Market Square, a new visitor welcome hub designed to showcase the island’s cultural and natural heritage.
The former bank building has been transformed into an accessible ground‑floor space offering visitor information, admission and travel tickets, an interpretation area and a retail shop featuring Manx made gifts and books. MNH says every purchase supports its charitable conservation work.
The venue will also host small events during quieter months, including workshops and ‘Meet the Maker’ sessions celebrating Manx creativity.
A second phase development will see the upper floor converted into office space for 8 to 10 people, adding to town centre footfall.
Chief Executive Connie Lovel said the project “breathes new life” into a key Castletown building while enhancing the visitor experience and supporting the local economy. Head of Operations Pauline Wall said the prominent location would help reinvigorate public engagement with MNH’s mission.
Castletown Town Commissioners welcomed the investment, with Vice‑Chairman John Cringle praising the “amazing” visual impact and the hub’s role in bringing together Manx producers and future community activities.
MNH ensured the hub opened ahead of the TT period, with final touches due in the coming weeks.
