Manx Utilities’ and its contractors Wardell Armstrong SLR are to take advantage of a road closure to carry out survey work.
The DoI has authorised a road closure in the area of the Fairy Bridge from March 17 to 19 for work to be undertaken by DEFA.
To complete the survey a two-day extension has been granted for a single lane closure with traffic lights, for 20-21 March.
During the work, Manx utilities says it will be supporting Wardell Armstrong SLR in carrying out bat roost and arboriculturist assessments.
The works involve using a mobile elevated working platform to carry out visual/photographic inspections and record any bat activity etc.
Wardell Armstrong SLR will also be taking the opportunity to carry out arboriculturist assessments, to ascertain the extent of any pruning or limbing that may be required for the transportation of wind turbine components.
Manx Utilities said: “As outlined during the project consultation events, the transportation phase of the project will likely require a blade lifter to help deliver blades from Douglas Port.
“This vehicle allows a blade to navigate tight bends and avoid any hard constraints by lifting the blade to an angle of up to 60 degrees.
“The section being surveyed represents the area of the transport route where blades would be lifted above the normal highway maintenance corridor.
“These surveys are to assess the possible impacts to species which hibernate or roost in trees such as bats.”
