The Jane Crookall Maternity Unit is asking if prospective mothers would be willing to pay to secure their own private room.
A side room could be available for new mothers after they deliver their baby.
While the room would come with a charge, the unit stressed it is not private medicine, the support and treatment would be the same.
It said: “We are doing a little poll to see if you would welcome the opportunity to be able to pay for a side room on the Jane Crookall Maternity Unit after you have delivered your baby! ![]()
“An amenity bed is a bed in a private room in a National Health Service hospital available for a payment to a patient receiving free treatment (not private care).”
