A Ballasalla couple have marked seven decades of marriage by asking loved ones to donate to Hospice instead of buying presents.
John and Nona Welsh celebrated their Platinum Wedding Anniversary at the George Hotel in Castletown, the same venue where they held their wedding reception in 1956.
The couple married at Arbory Church on the morning of their original wedding day, timing the reception so they could catch the 3pm flight to their honeymoon.
Hospice Isle of Man said the couple raised £525.20 through their generous request.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to John, Nona and their family and friends for their heartfelt kindness and generosity,” a spokesperson for the charity said.
“We are so, so appreciative.”
The charity added: “Our congratulations on your extraordinary 70th Anniversary, and may the years ahead be filled with continued joy and togetherness.”
