Airport Apologises as Passengers Miss Flights

Ronaldsway Airport waiting area

The airport has apologised to passengers after some travellers missing flights due to reduced security screening capacity.

Ronaldsway said the issue was caused by a power fault caused significant delays with passengers reporting massive queues stretching back to the Oasis Cafe in the upstairs of the terminal.

The disruption followed overnight electrical work carried out by airport staff and third-party contractors, which required a temporary power shutdown.

When systems were restored this morning, a fault was discovered, impacting the Central Search Area.

In a statement, the airport said: “We’d like to apologise to all passengers who experienced delays today, and particularly to those who may have missed their flights as a result.”

There has been some comments from people on social media saying they had missed their flight due to the delays.

Unrelated

Officials confirmed the issue was unrelated to a previously announced security equipment upgrade but acknowledged it caused “additional disruption”.

Teams have been working on-site to resolve the fault, with the equipment manufacturer also contacted for support.

Passengers were advised to check the airport’s Facebook page for updates, including ongoing delays and advice on allowing extra time for security.

Those who missed flights were urged to contact their airlines first for rebooking.

The airport added: “We fully recognise the inconvenience caused and are working to ensure corrective action is taken as quickly as possible.”
