Over three quarters of sites planned for development in the latest area plan are on greenfield land.
Cabinet Office Minister David Ashford confirmed that 78% of allocated land for the Area Plan for the North and West is greenfield, with brownfield making up the remaining 22%.
The data was provided to Glenfaba and Peel MHK Kate Lord-Brennan, who had requested a list of sites and their classification.
The plan allocates 107.7 hectares for residential or employment use.
In his answer, Mr Ashford clarified the site classification, saying: “A site previously used for horticulture or defence with a significant amount of hardstanding and other structures would not fall within the definition of ‘previously developed’ under the Act but for purposes of the question, these have been treated as brownfield in the truest sense of the word.”
Major allocations include a 38.7-hectare greenfield urban extension east of Peel.
Tynwald is due to vote on the plan this week.
