Rushen Silver Band paid tribute to “indomitable force of nature” Joyce Corlett MBE.
A lifelong support of the arts and Cleveland Medal winner passed away earlier this month.
As well as supporting of the band, Joyce worked with many other community organisations including the Erin Arts Centre, Rushen Emergency Ambulance and the Citizens Advice Bureau.
The band said: “An acclaimed musician in her own right having won the Cleveland Medal in 1982, she supported the arts in all its forms.
“Joyce was a founder member and President of the Ladies Committee of Rushen Silver Band which later became the Friends of the Band.
“She acted as compere, was an Honorary Life Member of the Band, served as Band President, was a popular guest soloist for band concerts and past winner of the Dave Smith Memorial Shield for Services to the Band in her own right on three separate occasions and one further time as a member of the Ladies Committee.”
History
Joyce also collected much of the bands history over the last 50 or more years, with the band holding many of the scrapbooks she created in its archive.
The band said: “Always supportive and present at band concerts, coffee morning and fairs, Joyce was a larger than life character and an indomitable force of nature and will be greatly missed by all the Rushen Silver Band family.”
