The Chamber of Commerce fully supports the Local Economy Forum’s call for government to urgently rethink its approach to minimum wage reform.
Chamber says the Forum’s proposal is a “practical, balanced, and fair alternative”.
One which Chamber believes delivers the same take-home pay for workers without driving businesses to the wall.

The Chamber of Commerce said: “We have consistently raised concerns about using a combined median to set island-wide wage policy, as it does not fairly reflect the realities of the private sector.
“The Forum’s proposal recognises this challenge and offers a constructive alternative that protects living standards while maintaining business viability.
“It is the responsible path forward and shares the burden fairly between business and Government, avoids fueling inflation, and helps protect jobs on the island.”
Chamber also calls on Government to reinstate age banding for younger workers, as used in the UK.
Chamber says: “Removing these bands will have serious and immediate consequences — limiting opportunities for young people to gain vital work experience and placing further strain on employers already under pressure.
“We are committed to working with Government and the Local Economy Forum to shape a fair, evidence-led approach that protects jobs, supports living standards, and strengthens the Island’s long-term economic resilience.”
