Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation has marked 20 years since the death of Craig Lunt from an undiagnosed heart condition.
A talented and highly footballer, Craig died of a condition known as Long QT syndrome.
Since his death in April 2005, his friend Paul and mum Paula have dedicated countless hours to ensure no-one else has to go through the grief they suffered.
Establishing Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation, the charity organises free heart scans for people aged 14 to 35 which have picked up hundreds of previously unknown defects and saved lives.
Paul, who was awarded a British Empire Medal for his services to the charity in 2022, said: “Everything we have achieved in that time is down to the person you were and we will continue to keep your name shining bright, saving lives.”
As the anniversary has also fallen on the same evening as the Merseyside Derby he said himself and some of Craig’s friends were going to get together to watch the game and “raise a glass or two to him”, while adding he hopes Everton lose.
