As the latest bout of stormy conditions swept across the island, one coastal eatery was hit harder than most.
The Shed cafe on Laxey promenade is renowned island-wide for its range of hot beverages and supremely popular crumble counter. Last night (October 26), however, a rogue wave meant their outside seating took a hell of a beating:
No Rest for the Wicked
Despite the dramatic scene, the cafe managed to open their doors as planned this morning (October 27), thanks to what they describe as “a lot of help and muscle power early-doors”. By 9am, it was beachfront business as usual.

The Department of Infrastructure has announced that the promenade in Laxey will be closed until 4:30pm today.
They say that their intention is to clear the roadway of debris after this morning’s high tide has abated, and that an initial assessment of the damage to the surface has already been undertaken. Immediate temporary repairs are planned to make the carriageway safe, before it reopens to road users later in the day.
