The Information Commissioner has upheld a complaint against the DoI over its handling of an FoI request about the Ronaldsway Airport Rescue Vessel.

The applicant sought 14 pieces of information relating to the vessel’s costs, storage, training and usage.

The department responded in January 2024, providing most of the information but stating two items were no longer held.

An internal review took nine months, after which two additional pieces of information were released.

The Commissioner found the initial response breached the Freedom of Information Act due to inadequate searches and a failure to provide advice and assistance.

The Commissioner said: “The authority’s initial search was deemed inadequate because it was incomplete, lacked record, and by their own admission was only partial.”

The internal review response took 189 working days, which the information commissioner saying she “does not deem this response time appropriate”.

While the complaint was upheld, no further action was required as all requested information has now been provided.
