DoI Minister Dr Michelle Haywood has confirmed that her department is advancing plans to return horse trams to the Sea Terminal.
Moved as part of the infamous prom scheme, Tynwald has previously instructed the DoI to lay a single-line tram track between its current location near Broadway to the Sea Terminal.
The project, which includes a design proposal and business case, was discussed at a Policy Development meeting on April 8.
“Once the business case has been completed, it will be presented for consideration by Treasury before submission to Tynwald,” Dr Haywood told members.
Arbory, Castletown, and Malew MHK Tim Glover, who tabled the question, welcomed the “positivity” in the minister’s response.
He pressed further, asking whether the “halfway horse tram” could be fully extended in time for next year’s 150th anniversary.
Dr Haywood replied with a light-hearted assurance: “I’m more than aware, I’ve done the deal with Manx Radio. They’ll stop calling it the halfway horse tram if we manage to deliver the extension.”
