The DoI says that its digitisation of driving licence services may not result in a reduction in staff numbers.
Renewals and duplicate applications moved online earlier this month.
The new online system, part of the Government Efficiencies Programme, currently handles licence renewals and duplicate requests. Further services, including applications for full and provisional licences and personal detail changes, are scheduled to launch at a later date.
Responding to a question from Douglas North MHK John Wannenburgh, Infrastructure Minister Dr Haywood said: “It is not yet known what, or if any, department headcount efficiencies will be made from the full project implementation, as there will still be a resource requirement to process and audit applications made online.”
