Family Library Limited, the company and charity that operates the Family Library services, will cease trading at the end of next month.
As pleas for assistance have gone unanswered, the charity has confirmed ti will close on July 31.
In a statement, the organisation said: “It is with deep regret that Family Library Limited, the company and charity that has operated the Family Library services for the last 14 years since its closure as a Government service, confirms that it will cease trading on July 31 and proceed to close down the charity.”
All lending will stop on July 18, including mobile and delivery services, as staff retrieve borrowed items. Events and Bibliotherapy sessions will continue until closure.
Future
The charity acknowledged efforts to find a new model for library services, stating: “There are a number of initiatives that are looking at alternative solutions to run the library services going forward in a new model.”
However, it clarified: “The existing organisation is not fundraising any longer, this is being done by third parties that we are encouraging and supporting, but we are not part of.”
The statement paid tribute to supporters and staff, saying: “We would like to thank everyone who has assisted us over the past 14 years and, in particular, the stellar staff that have made it what it is.”
The Friends of the Family Library has said that it is “working our hardest to see what can be done”.
It added: “We are not part of the current charity or its operations, but have been long established supporting the Family Library, and now exploring what a future version of this much-loved service could look like.”
