The Fire and Rescue Service has launched a range of new options for retained firefighters.
The new contracts are intended to attract people who want to join but couldn’t commit to the full on-call contract.
Introduced for the first time, the service said they are “designed to fit around modern life and boost cover at the times we need it most, especially weekday daytimes and weekends”.
They are for retained (on-call) firefighters and will be available at selected stations, based on local need.
Contract options include:
Weekday daytimes (Mon–Fri, 08:00–17:00)
Weekday & Weekend Days (Mon–Sun, 08:00–17:00)
Weekend Only (Sat 08:00–Mon 08:00)
Drop In
Applications are open for both whole time and retained firefighters.
As part of this, there will be come and try it sessions at Douglas Fire Station on Monday 15, Tuesday 23 and Thursday 25 of September from 6:15pm to 8pm.
The Tuesday evening session is for women only.
Around the island, a series of drop-in events will also be held at local fire stations.
That includes Ramsey on September 10, Rushen on September 11, Laxey on September 16, Peel on September 17, Castletown and Malew on September 18 and Kirk Michael on September 22.
Whether you’re thinking about applying or just curious about the job, this is a great way to get a real insight into the firefighter role.
