Flood defence work on Glen Road in Laxey is set to begin next week as the Department of Infrastructure moves ahead with the next phase of river wall improvements.
Paul Carey and Sons Ltd has been appointed to build a new section of defence wall along the river and strengthen part of the existing wall on the opposite bank.
The work is scheduled for the summer months to avoid the salmon spawning season and to complete river‑based activity before higher autumn and winter water levels make it unsafe.
The contractor is due to start setting up on site early next week, with work running through to the end of September.
Access to the river will be taken from the established entry point just downstream of Garff Commissioners’ play area on Glen Road.
Materials and machinery will be moved along the riverbed using a temporary stone roadway, which will be installed and removed at the start and end of the working season. This will mean periods of increased heavy‑vehicle movements on Glen Road.
Residents can expect site traffic throughout the summer, and parents are being asked to remind children to take extra care near the road.
Deliveries will be timed to avoid school drop‑off and pick‑up periods at the Laxey Football Club car park.
