A former member of Tynwald and long-serving Steam Packet employee Geoff Corkish MBE has passed away.
Mr Corkish, 72, was also a prominent member of the island’s charity and music scenes.
Elected to represented Douglas West in 2006, Mr Corkish moved upstairs to the Legislative Council in 2013.
A former winner of the Cleveland Medal, chairman of the Arts Council and vice-chairman of Culture Vannin, he left more than his mark on the Manx entertainment scene.
Mr Corkish will also be remembered for his legendary fundraising partnership with Dot Tilbury, show below as the hosts of the Fashion For Life events.
Speaker Juan Watterson said: “So very sorry to hear that Geoff Corkish MBE passed away yesterday. Even when a few of us ‘old boys’ went to see him in Hospice on Wednesday he was laughing and joking about old times, so it has come as a bit of a shock that he has gone downhill so quickly.
“As a fiercely proud Manxman, he took great pride in representing West Douglas, being elected twice before being elected to the Legislative Council in 2013.
“Geoff’s style wasn’t banging the table, but by using his disarming personality to get people to sit round it to settle issues and make our Island a better place.
“His talents were well utilised, from tourism to the Arts Council. He was always the life and soul of the party and held Court in his office as purveyor of buiscuits to anyone passing.”
