Aimee Ford, a celebrated cake designer from the Isle of Man, has clinched the prestigious title of Wedding Cake Artist of the Year at the 2025 Cake and Bake International Awards—an accolade widely regarded as the “Oscars of the cake world”.
Held annually at the NEC Birmingham, Cake International is the world’s largest cake competition and trade show, drawing thousands of bakers, designers, and sugar artists from across the globe.
This year marked the debut of the standalone Cake and Bake International Awards, a glittering ceremony that brought together the industry’s finest under one roof.
Ford’s win was the result of a rigorous nomination and judging process. “Anyone can nominate—clients, fellow cake makers, even the public,” she told Manx.News. “The judges then assess your entire body of work, your creativity, your contribution to the industry, and your impact on the community.”
Her standout achievement this year was the launch of an inclusive product range designed for cake makers of all skill levels. “I’m passionate about making tools that are affordable and accessible,” Ford said. “I wanted something that hobby bakers and professionals alike could use.”
The judges praised Ford’s creativity, focus, and dedication—not just to her craft, but to mentoring others and supporting local events. “To be recognised among such phenomenal talent is surreal,” she said. “I’m just a small Manx girl among global giants—it’s insane.”
Cupcakes to Credentials: Now She Judges the Best
Ford’s journey began 14 years ago with a batch of cupcakes baked during downtime from a job with no overtime. Within 18 months, she had quit to pursue cake design full-time. Her first competition entry was Cake International itself, and she’s since become a regular judge at the event.
Despite the glamour of international awards, Ford is candid about the hard work behind the scenes. “It’s seven days a week, long nights, and waking up at 3am to work,” she said. “Running your own business isn’t all buttercream and roses.”
