Govt Workforce Grows

Isle of Man Government Office, Douglas

The public service workforce increased by 52 full-time equivalent posts during the final three months of 2025.

This follows growth in numbers recorded in the previous quarter.

Manx Care accounted for the largest rise, adding 27.50 FTE – a 0.9% increase – which the report said “reflects continued investment within health and care services”.

The DESC saw the biggest increase among core departments, rising by 15.64 FTE.

The report attributed this to “normal recruitment cycles and the ongoing delivery of statutory education services, with growth targeted within service delivery rather than central functions”.

Infrastructure added 7.94 FTE, though the report stressed this “reflects approved recruitment from previous quarters and the filling of existing vacancies following resignations and retirements, rather than the creation of new roles”.

It adds that no new positions were established in DoI during the reporting period.

The Treasury recorded the largest decrease, down 3.46 FTE, while DEFA fell by 1.76 FTE.

Overall, the total workforce stood at 7,890.04 FTE at the end of December.
