Gran Fondo to Enter a New Era

Gran Fondo (Isle of Man) Ltd has announced a major shift in focus, rebooting its flagship event as a mass-participation gravel and cross-country mountain bike challenge set for July 2026.

Inspired by the End 2 End Mountain Bike Race, the new Gran Fondo Isle of Man, powered by Altenar, will see riders tackle a 90km route from the north of the island to Castletown.

The course will combine gravel roads, single track, bridle paths, and private land, offering a demanding yet scenic challenge.

Paul Phillips, Director of Gran Fondo (Isle of Man) Ltd, said: “When we decided to conclude Gran Fondo Isle of Man, we wanted to keep the team together and deliver another top-tier event for the island.

“Gravel cycling is experiencing rapid growth, and it felt like the ideal time to apply our expertise to a new project.”

Reimagined

The main event will feature separate categories for gravel and XC mountain bikes, while a 40km Medio Fondo will run concurrently, open to all bike types, including e-bikes.

The weekend will also include a reimagined Piccolo Fondo as a guided social ride and the Minisculo Fondo for younger riders in Castletown.

Paul added: “We’re excited about the plans we have in the works and can’t wait to share them with the riders who have supported us over the years – and hopefully attract new faces who prefer off-road cycling.”

The event aims to be inclusive, welcoming riders of all abilities.

Paul also highlighted the partnership with Castletown, saying: “The backdrop of Castle Rushen for the finish will make for an unforgettable experience.”

Gran Fondo Isle of Man powered by Altenar takes place from July 26 2026.
