Billy Harris got off to a winning start as he looks to book a place at US Open.
The Manx tennis player beat Japan’s James Kent Trotter 3-6 6-1 6-2 in the first qualifying round.
He will face Kazakhstan’s Mikhail Kukushkin tomorrow afternoon in the second qualfying round.
If he beats the 37-year-old, he will be one game away from the main draw and would face either Italian Matteo Gigante or Hong Kong’s Coleman Wong.
Harris, who was born in Nottingham but grew up on the island, became the first Manx player to win at Wimbledon earlier this year when he made it through to the second round in the mens’ singles and doubles.
