The Isle of Man Constabulary are currently looking for members of the public to join the IOM Government pool of interpreters for any and all languages.
The role promises to be interesting and important to our diverse and multi-cultural island, where you will be supporting those who struggle to access services due to language across all Government Departments.
For the Police it would mainly be asking you translate in the company of Police Officers when they are taking witness statements or interviewing people suspected of offences and/or assisting the courts.
Although this is not an exhaustive list as every day is different in the Police and there may be other situations where it would request the interpreters’ services.
Interpreters
This would be very much geared around the individuals availability with no obligation and the candidate will be paid for their time as well as having the opportunity to make a really positive difference to somebody’s life.
Whilst there is no requirement for any formal qualifications, applicants need to be fully conversant in both verbal and written English and the language.
Successful applicants will be subject to vetting by the Police Vetting Department prior to appointment.
