The DoI has warned that two key traffic signal junctions in Douglas are now at a “high risk of failure” after exceeding their intended life span.
The urgent repairs will delay planned upgrades in Onchan.
Minister for Infrastructure Dr Michelle Haywood said that three traffic signal junctions, at Rosemount and St Ninian’s in Douglas, as well as Malew Street in Castletown, have exceeded their asset life and “are at a high risk of failure.”
These will be prioritised for replacement in 2025/26, pushing back the planned installation of Microprocessor Optimised Vehicle Actuation in Onchan for its junction with Royal Avenue and Main Road.
Dr Haywood said the department would “endeavour to expedite” the Onchan works if resources allow, but Douglas’s critical junctions take precedence.
