The Island’s rising junior pole vaulters are preparing to make their mark at the prestigious Vault Masters 2025 in Manchester on February 1.
The talented trio of Lara Smith, Rory Turner and Zac Woodward are determined to showcase their skills against some of the best athletes in the sport.
Their journey to this point has been guided by their dedicated coach, John Whitlow, whose commitment to nurturing the young athletes has been instrumental in their progress.
John has worked tirelessly to provide them with technical expertise, motivation and unwavering support, ensuring they remain focused despite significant challenges.
Pole Vault Masters
Ahead of the competition, the trio will travel to Manchester this weekend for a vital indoor training session with a UK pole vault coach at Sportcity.
This session will allow them to benefit from world- class facilities and to refine their techniques under expert guidance, giving them a competitive edge as they prepare to take on this major event.
However, training conditions on the Isle of Man have been far from ideal.
The Island’s only facility at the National Sports Centre is outdoor, and training has been affected by poor weather.
Damage to the mat caused by rabbits has further complicated preparations. Despite these hurdles, John Whitlow and his team have persevered, ensuring the athletes continue to develop their skills and stay competition-ready.
The Vault Masters 2025 will not only be a significant milestone for the young athletes but also a source of pride.
