The DoI Minister has revealed that 140 locations across 123 roads were identified in 2021 as requiring physical changes to enforce 20mph speed limits.
However, none of them were implemented due to a lack of funding.
In response to a question from Douglas Central MHK Chris Thomas, Minister Dr Michelle Haywood said: “The department’s 20 mph Project Implementation Plan referenced 140 distinct locations across 123 roads—including some roads with more than one identified feature—where physical carriageway modifications were initially considered necessary to support self-enforcement of 20 mph zones as assessed in 2021.
“However, no physical carriageway alterations have been delivered at any of those locations, as the necessary capital funding was not allocated in the original project budget.”
The affected roads span multiple areas, including Ramsey (13 roads), Douglas (68 roads), Peel (seven roads and smaller villages like Ballasalla and Castletown.
Measures such as chicanes, narrowings, and raised tables were proposed but went undelivered.
The list includes prominent routes like Queens Pier Road in Ramsey, Tynwald Road in Peel, and Strand Road in Douglas.
