MHKs Concerned About Reports of Health Cuts

Two MHKs have voiced their concerns about reports of planned health procedures and appointments being cancelled.

Manx Labour Party and Liberal Vannin leaders Joney Faragher and Lawrie Hooper have both spoken up on the issue this afternoon.

Ms Faragher had been due to ask the DHSC Minister Claire Christian if any cuts were planned to services as doubts continue to grow about Manx Care’s finances and how it will pay for the pay rise proposed to doctors.

However with Ms Christian unwell, the urgent question was not heard in Keys today.

Posting on Facebook, Mr Hooper said: “I’m starting to hear about cancelled theatre lists with surgeries being cancelled or postponed, patients being told about funding being unavailable etc.”

He added: “Government of course has only last week in Tynwald denied any cuts are coming – but the anecdotal evidence is starting to mount up.”

Ms Faragher said she had also received “worried messages from people across the island, news about theatre closures and off-island treatment being withdrawn”.

She added: “I can’t believe government has pushed this through, without telling people. It’s a huge change to our healthcare services and will have a big impact on all of us.

“I’m happy to talk with anyone affected, please don’t worry alone. I will keep pushing on this and I know I’m not the only politician who is concerned about this.”
