Richard William ‘Milky’ Quayle has been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2024 and awarded an BEM.
Mr Richard William ‘Milky’ Quayle is only the third Manx rider to win a solo Isle of Man Tourist Trophy (TT) race in the history of the event, when he triumphed in the TT Lightweight Race in 2002.
Since then, through his enthusiasm, energy and expertise, he has inspired a generation of Manx road-racers, including Conor Cummins and Nathan Harrison, to tackle the Mountain Course, with the aim of becoming the fourth Manx solo TT race winner.
Milky Quayle
Mr Quayle has an unrivalled knowledge of the circuit, and since 2006 in his official role of TT Riders Liaison Officer, he has coached and mentored hundreds of newcomers.
His own racing achievements are numerous. He was winner of the 1994 SuperSport Manx Championship, winner of the 1996 250cc Manx Championship, and second in the 1998 Manx Grand Prix (MGP) Lightweight Race.
In 1999, he won the MGP Lightweight Race and the MGP Junior Race. The next year, he was second in the TT Production Race. Most notably, in 2002 he won both the TT Lightweight Race and the MGP Classic Senior Race.
That year, he was also voted the Isle of Man Sportsman of the Year. Following his very successful racing career, Mr Quayle has played a key role in the Manx Motorcycle Racing Organisation, with the prime responsibility of rider development.
Given the inherent danger and risks of racing the Mountain Course, Mr Quayle devotes huge amounts of his time assisting and advising new competitors how to negotiate the circuit safely.
He is tireless and demonstrates exceptional dedication, outstanding leadership and innovative methods, through which he has significantly improved competitor safety.
Demonstrated a deep commitment
Mr Quayle has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to showcase the best of the Isle of Man. He is an outstanding ambassador for the Island.
His recorded lap of the Mountain Course for the official TT website has over one million views on YouTube alone.
He gives up considerable time to help others, particularly those starting off their road-racing careers.
His Majesty the King has awarded Mr Richard William ‘Milky’ Quayle the BEM in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2024 for his outstanding contribution to the Isle of Man road-races.
