This should come as no surprise to anyone that the road closure on the Mountain Road has been extended.
The Department of Infrastructure says it has had reduced resources available to work on the Mountain due to redeploying its snowploughs and gritters to other areas of the island.
It says this ongoing work has significantly reduced the resources available to work on the Mountain Road, Beinn Y Phott Road and Tholt Y Will Road.
The current temporary closures on these roads will be extended to midday tomorrow (January 9).
Closure Extended
The latest weather forecast suggests that there will be further icy weather throughout the island overnight with the possibility of snow on higher ground.
In these circumstances, the Department’s resources will be focused on maintaining the other arterial routes that link towns and villages.
It says its snowplough and gritters will be sent back to the Mountain Road later when circumstances allow.
