The island’s airport fuel supply will be protected for medical flights should shortages arise, the Chief Minister has said.
It follows reports in the Financial Times that jet fuel is in short supply, prompting concerns over patient transfer flights and other essential services.
Dr Michelle Haywood raised the issue in Tynwald on Tuesday, asking whether contingency planning included the aviation sector.
Chief Minister Alf Cannan confirmed that protection measures are in place.
“There are two absolute principles that I’ve outlined this morning that reference that,” Mr Cannan said.
“One, we will protect essential services so aircraft, aviation fuel will be protected for medical purposes in terms of direct medical response.
“Secondly, we will protect fuel supplies, ensuring that we have relevant and appropriate contingency plans that are ready if needed.”
The Chief Minister said the island’s supply chain comes through the UK and that authorities continue to work closely with UK counterparts and local companies.
