Sewage Works to Get Underway in April

Construction of Peel’s new wastewater treatment works is set to begin next month, the chairman of Manx Utilities Authority has confirmed.

The project, approved in December 2024 after a rejected planning appeal, has now cleared key hurdles, including land acquisition and contract finalisation.

John Wannenburgh MHK said the “large, complex construction contract” has been signed, and the contractor is ready to start once the land transfer is complete.

“We are currently targeting a site start early in April,” he said. “As soon as we have confirmation, we will release the date and further programme details.”

Planning conditions, such as biodiversity measures, have been resolved with the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture.

The MUA acknowledged Treasury support in securing the site, which is expected to pass into government ownership imminently.

The long-delayed scheme aims to improve wastewater management for Peel and the wider island.
