A woman who hit a fellow pub-goer has been handed a suspended sentence.
Jessica Radcliffe, 34, of Douglas, was sentenced by magistrates on Thursday.
The court heard that on August 12 2023, Radcliffe was in the car park of the Heron Pub when there was a disturbance between two other people.
She went into the pub and approached one of the women before hitting her, causing some minor injuries to the woman’s face, before leaving.
Radcliffe was arrested and bailed and told not to contact the other woman.
On September 10 2023, the two had a chance meeting in the Spar Shop in Anagh Coar.
When the other woman told Radcliffe to leave her alone, she became aggressive and swore at the other woman, who rang the police.
Officers arrived and led her away, which she continued to yell obscenities.
De-escalation
Defence advocate Jim Travers said that while the events were unfortunate and Radcliffe accepted her guilt, he told the court that since the Spar incident she has not been in any trouble with the police.
He added that the matters represented a “de-escalation” on some of Radcliffe’s prior behaviour and expressed her wish to move from the area to start fresh.
Mr Travers also explained that the case had taken so long to resolve as the protection had sought to take a charge of witness intimidation to trial, a charge that Radcliffe had always denied.
He added that the Spar incident had been a chance encounter and she “said what was on her mind”, but said that it was “industrial language, nothing more” and she apologised for that.
Following a recommendation from Probation Services, Radcliffe was handed six month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and a 12 month suspended sentence supervision order.
She must also pay £725 prosecution costs.
