Team silver for Al at Northern Cross-Country Champs

The good news for Manx athletes from the weekend keeps on coming as Alan Corlett brought home a team silver and 24th place at the Northern Cross-Country Championships.

Al had a long trek up to Sedgefield in County Durham on Saturday (January 27) for the Northern Cross-Country Championships.

Whilst competing he represented his club Salford Harriers.

Al finished in an excellent 24th place in the Senior Men’s race in a field of 439.

The was his best-ever placing at the event, and he was one of the scoring members of a strong Salford team which won the team silver medal in the men’s race.

Manx success

Carla Teece has become the third Manx athlete to break an Isle of Man (IOM) record this weekend.

Carla’s came in the indoor 60 metres in the Junior Women’s category, when she ran a time of 8.02 seconds at Sportcity in Manchester at the weekend.

This was narrowly inside her own age group record set in Sheffield last year, and an improvement on the 8.06 seconds she clocked in Sheffield a fortnight ago.

Sarah Astin has clocked a time of 1:11:40 in her first serious attempt at a Half Marathon in Seville, Spain.

The IOM women’s record has stood to Brenda Walker for more than 32 years, but Sarah has beaten it by two minutes and 49 seconds on Sunday (January 28).

Isle of Man Commonwealth Games athlete David Mullarkey achieved yet another stunning performance in the colours of Florida State University (FSU), clocking an indoor 3,000 metres time of 7:42.89.

That is more than 10 seconds faster than the personal best time he posted two weeks ago, and if I understand correctly from the College Instagram post it is a new FSU record.
