Two New Firefighters Join Service

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service has welcomed its two newest firefighters, Mathew Harrison and Nathan Wadsworth.

The pair successfully completed a 17‑week foundation course at Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service’s Training and Development Academy in Aintree.

The recruits faced intensive weekly drills, written exams, fire‑prevention sessions and a demanding fitness programme designed to prepare them for frontline duties.

Family members attended last week’s pass‑out parade, where both men demonstrated their new skills through a series of realistic live‑fire scenarios.

Harrison and Wadsworth will now join crews at Douglas Fire Station, beginning their careers as operational firefighters.

Chief Fire Officer Mark Christian congratulated the pair, praising their “hard work, commitment and determination” throughout the course.

He also thanked Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service for delivering a high‑quality training programme that has equipped the new firefighters with the skills and confidence needed to serve the island safely and effectively.
