A group of supporters has rallied to save the Family Library after its impending closure was announced.
The Friends of the Family Library want to find a future for what it called a vital service for the Isle of Man.
On its new Facebook page, the group said it for people who |care deeply about what the Family Library has meant, and could still mean, to our island community”.
The group clarified its position, stating: “We are not part of the current charity or its operations, but have been long established supporting the Family Library, and now exploring what a future version of this much-loved service could look like.”
Reflecting on the library’s 14-year legacy, they said: “Over the last 14 years, the Family Library has brought so much to the Isle of Man: books, mobile library visits, creative learning, community events, bibliotherapy sessions, and a safe and welcoming space for families and individuals of all ages.”
The group outlined plans to gather public support for and said it will be for:
- Sharing ways you can show support
- Keeping you informed about any progress or proposals
- Collecting memories, stories and messages from the community
- Exploring new ideas for how library services could continue in a new form
Acknowledging the challenge ahead, it said: “We’re at the beginning of this journey, and we don’t have all the answers, but with enough voices, energy and creativity, we believe something good can come from this moment of change.”
