A Falkland Islands based premium spirit with strong Isle of Man links, has won a Silver Award at the prestigious Gin Guide Awards.
Tumbledown Gin, which runs its research and marketing operations from the Isle of Man under the direction of island resident John Hellowell, was named a finalist in the Traditional Gin (over 42% ABV) category alongside entries from the UK, Europe, the USA and New Zealand.
Following blind tasting by an expert judging panel, Tumbledown secured the Silver Award.
Distilled in the Falkland Islands using fresh local water and native botanicals, the gin travels 8,000 miles to the UK aboard the Royal Navy Fleet Auxiliary before being sold to customers in Britain and on the Isle of Man.
Mr Hellowell said the recognition was “a great honour”, describing the Gin Guide Awards as the industry’s equivalent of the Oscars.
“It’s a fantastic achievement for the business, especially as we’re still a relative newcomer competing against more established brands,” he added.
Tumbledown Gin was first produced in 2018 by former soldier Taff Davies, whose small‑scale distilling for the local Falklands community quickly gained a loyal following.
Hellowell, then living in the Falklands, saw the potential to take the spirit to wider markets despite the logistical challenges of its remote origins.
The gin is named after Mount Tumbledown, overlooking Port Stanley and holding deep historical significance due to its role in the Falklands War.
