Julie Receives Well Deserved MBE

MBE Investiture for Julie Stokes at Government House, Isle of Man –

Julie Stokes has been received for MBE for services to cancer care on the Isle of Man.

The Lieutenant Governor presided over an investiture ceremony at Government House, where Mrs Stokes chose to receive her award locally.

Following her own cancer diagnosis, Mrs Stokes founded the Manx Breast Cancer Support Group.

She has since played a central role in transforming local services, recently founding the Mannin Cancers Support Group and spearheading the creation of the new Mannin Cancer Centre at Noble’s Hospital.

Her leadership led the charity to fundraise £1.5 million for a new Breast Unit at Noble’s Hospital in 2012, followed by a further £3.5 million campaign for major upgrades including a refurbished Scanner Suite.

Julie said: “It was an absolute honour to receive my MBE here on the island at Government House from HE Sir John Lorimer. It was lovely to be able to have my family and friends there on such a special occasion.”

A reception was held afterwards, where family, friends, colleagues and supporters gathered to celebrate.
