Nick Crowe: Right to Suspend Sidecars

Five-time TT winner Nick Crowe has backed organisers’ decision to suspend the remainder of the sidecar racing during this year’s TT.

This follows the crash involving his sons Ryan and Callum on Wednesday evening.

The pair were involved in a high-speed incident and were taken to Noble’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“It could have been worse,” Nick said. “It was just extremely not maybe so windy. They initially got over the jump all right, and they were caught with the crosswind, and it just slipped the bike over to the right and into the walls.”

He praised the safety gear worn by the crew. “That was probably the best set of leathers out there, and the helmets stood up.”

On the decision to suspend the sidecars, Nick added: “The organisers of the TT actually do an exceptional job to try to keep the event as safe as they can, but I think under the circumstances it was the right decision.”
